To minimise any form of risk I might hold, I shall not mention the parties involved.
But this whole issue is enough to disgust anyone, even though mentioning the specific office will definitely bring up common sentiments from fellow NBS students.
Seriously, if the whole idea is just to stick by that particular statement "You can't reject once you accept this company in Phase X", it is nothing but a wrong and unwanted decision made.
I would understand that my decision to pull out from the current internship will be detrimental to both the office's reputation and the relationship between the company and the HR themselves IF
- all of us have an internship
- if there are no 95 business students still actively sourcing for a company
- if nobody wishes to take the company I was previously allocated
But no, we all know its not true.
There are indeed 95 other business students still sourcing for their internship, there are still people who will gladly have this intern company. And they are aware of this, especially when they aint ashamed to bring this point up that they will not face any difficulties in finding somebody to replace me.
And yes, what Shaun says is right. Their objective is supposed to be getting the best opportunities to NBS students. And not to save their butts and stick by their principle/the book without any form of flexibility.
Now to clarify, I did not source for this internship after i gotten the company in Phase X. I only received an email for a full day assessment 4.5 months after I applied for it online. Who in the hell will expect something so late? And why give up on an opportunity to try?
I do agree I went for the interview purely for learning experience. Afterall, it was my first try at a full day assessment.
But when u are given two choices,
(1) A company who chose you only after two rounds of selection, whom chose you because they think I might be a good fit to the organisation.
V.S
(2) A company who wanted an intern and requested for one from the school, a company whom you were randomly allocated to through a balloting system, a company who has no idea who and how their interns are like. No calls, no emails, nothing from them after 2 full months.
Tell me, which will you choose? Putting aside the reputation of the company, the job scope, location of workplace, and the pay itself, considering only the fact that you are chosen and not random given an internship.
So now, they play it smart. Refusing to give me my 4 AUs worth of credit for my Professional Attachment if i were to take up the new offer. Asking me to defer my PA to December IF my Associate Dean is willing to let me skip 3 weeks of lessons on the basis of my GPA. (Nothing but GPA)
And the debate continues, but i am too lazy to type the rest of the story.
Let's hope justice prevails at the end. I will have to get back to the company by Monday.
Wish me luck.
ROAR.
sorry i just needed to complain. it sucks when you are in the middle of exam preparations and u have to deal with this whole lot of shit. its not just the emails, the calls and visits u have to make, its the after thought that keeps bombarding your poor little flooded mind when are trying to get all the equity securities stuff in.Labels: rantings, school, work
